The Compagnie des Alpes goes on the offensive

Compagnie des Alpes manages ten ski areas and thirteen leisure parks in France and internationally. Despite two very complicated years, the group looks to the future.

It is an understatement to say that 2020 and 2021 will have been black years for the Compagnie des Alpes, with figures that we thought we would never see: -99.3% of turnover for the ski areas managed by the company, in the first half of 2020-2021. An almost unreal percentage, but which shows to what extent the mountain world has been seriously impacted by the health crisis and the closure of ski lifts. Especially since the Compagnie des Alpes does not operate only in winter sports resorts, since it also operates leisure parks such as Futuroscope, Parc Astérix, Walibi … which were also closed to the public. . Thus, the group’s consolidated turnover for the first half of 2020-2021 is 31.5 million euros, compared to 470.5 million euros for the same period of the previous fiscal year, or a drop of 93.3%. For this first half-year, the group’s operating profit amounted to -137.7 million euros.

BOUNCE.

Despite this, the CDA is carrying out ambitious projects, notably around Futuroscope and Parc Astérix. Regarding the mountain, the group manages ten resorts: La Plagne, Tignes, Val-d’Isère, Les Arcs, Serre-Chevalier, Peisey Vallandry, Les Menuires, Méribel, Flaine, and Morillon / Samoëns / Sixt-Fer- on horseback. The CDA confirms the delay over the next financial year of certain uncommitted projects and ensures that the annual investment envelope for ski areas will reach an amount of nearly 80 million euros. A pilot project, focused on the Grand Massif (Flaine, Morillon / Samoëns / Sixt), should make it possible to speed up non-skiing activities, particularly during the summer period. CDA’s ambition on this site is to generate an activity of 25 to 50% of additional turnover by 2031,

CHANGE OF ORGANIZATION.

Recently, the CDA Board of Directors decided to separate the functions of President and CEO. Dominique Marcel, who was previously the CEO of the company, was elected president of the board, and the CDA has entrusted the role of CEO of the group deputy CEO Dominique Thillaud, 1 st  June.
