Is this the perfect solution to hide the front camera?
The move to borderless displays is forcing manufacturers to be inventive in integrating components that are normally on the front of phones. If the speakers and the home button are gone, the front camera is resisting.
To integrate it, several solutions: the notch, the motorized system, or the punch. These are viable alternatives, but they are still far from perfect. It is perhaps for this reason that another option is under development at the Korean firm: the integration of a sensor behind the screen.
The camera under the screen for the Z Fold 3?
It might even become a reality in the short term. According to the Korean site ETNews , Samsung would seriously consider offering this technology on its next folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The divisions Samsung Display and Samsung Electronics System would work together to develop an efficient system.
On paper this solution is perfect, but the prototypes that have been unveiled in recent months show that the quality of the camera is often degraded. The pictures are dark, the brightness having difficulty in making a passage to the sensor. To resolve this, Samsung would have chosen to space the pixels above the sensor.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 isn’t expected to arrive until the end of the first half of 2021. We’ll certainly have more details by then.
