I’ve been having a few problems with Firefox 3.0 on my Toshiba M700 running Vista. Intermittent crashes of Firefox are well publicised, but I am seeing another issue, that of excessive CPU cycles.
Often, and it seems to occur after resuming from hibernation, Firefox will take up 70 to 80% of both cores of my processor. I notice this as the CPU fan fires up blasting out hot air and my battery life falls through the floor. I have to terminate Firefox via task manager.
I have a colleague who is seeing similar behaviour. One to watch out for if you are relying on your battery seeing you through the day! If I find a solution I’ll post it.
