Dell Mini 9 Netbook Dual Display

The Dell Netbook has a terrific dual display capability, either clone display or the more productive dual desktop.  As you can see from the pics below it has no problems driving my Dell 24″ Monitor at its native 1920×1200 resolution.  I’m really liking this device, although my partner Lisa has taken it for herself!

Streaming Video on the Dell Mini 9

Looks pretty good to me!  This is the excellent BBC iPlayer.  Only available for UK users though.

Sorry for the background noise!  The Dells speakers are tinny as you might expect but reasonably loud.

Dell Mini 9 Netbook Screen Comparison

I’m finding the Dell’s screen to be pretty good.  Here’s a comparison shot with my Toshiba M700 LED Screen, indoors both on full brightness, and also an outdoor shot on a sunny day.  Really, the only issue is the glare.

Dell Mini 9 Upgrades

EDIT:  WWAN, not so easy :-(  Looking again at the WWAN the connector slot is actually missing.  Looks like if you want WWAN you’ll need to order it installed when available.

Looks like an easy SSD, Memory, WWAN and WLAN upgrade!  2 screws to remove and very easy access!

Here are the setup screens from the Dell.  Note all the boot options.  Going to try booting Linux off an SD Card.

Dell Mini 9 Netbook Unboxing

Well, this was waiting for me when I came home!

First impressions are of a solid, well made, light netbook with a very good, albeit glossy, screen.

Going to give it a good workout over the weekend.

Well, had a delivery confirmation of tomorrow morning.  Will post an unboxing video.

First thing I’ll be doing is sticking a mini PCI WWAN card into the vacant slot to stick in my Sim card.  Looks like the Dell may well be available as a free or subsidised unit when taken with a 3G data tariff on Vodafone.
